BEGINNING SEWING & QUILTING
Grades 4 to 7
Semester Fee: $75
Class Size: Min. 2, Max. 6
Learning to sew by making quilts is a fun, easy way to develop the art of sewing. Basic sewing techniques are taught centered around the quilt theme. Your child will learn both hand sewing and how to use the sewing machine. Various quilt projects are made to teach a variety of sewing skills. Each project builds on the next. A four patch quilt will be made first semester and a Rail Fence quilt in the spring semester. Other projects include appliqué, hand quilting, and strip piecing. Please note: There will be approximately 2 hours of homework each week and the students are responsible for finishing their assignment and bringing the appropriate materials and supplies to class.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: A portable sewing machine, cleaned and oiled; a sewing box with basic sewing supplies (a supply list will be given at registration). I will provide fabric for most of the projects except for the two quilts. The purchase of My First Quilting Book by Winky Cherry is recommended.

Projects include: pillowcase, drawstring bag, pot holder, tote bag, skirt, vest, pajamas, and purse. Please note: occasionally there is homework; each student is responsible for finishing their assignments and bringing appropriate materials and supplies to class.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: Portable sewing machine (cleaned and oiled), sewing box with basic sewing supplies (list will be mailed over the summer). A book is required: Stitches & Pins by JoAnn Gagnon.

INTERMEDIATE SEWING
Grades 5 to 7
Semester Fee: $75
Class Size: Min. 2, Max. 4
Sewing is a rewarding and profitable hobby, it is a skill that will last for a lifetime. This class is designed to teach your young seamstress more difficult sewing techniques like waistbands, zippers, darts, buttonholes, gathering, set-in sleeves,  pockets, and more. Along with a textbook, we will use store bought patterns featuring teen fashions. The girls are encouraged to personalize their projects, thus giving them the opportunity to design one-of-a-kind garments.
PREREQUISITE: Completion of Beginning Sewing or an appropriate amount of previous sewing experience as determined by the teacher.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: Portable sewing machine (cleaned and oiled), sewing box with basic sewing supplies (list will be mailed over the summer). A book with patterns is required: Pins & Needles by JoAnn Gagnon.

FABRIC FUN
Grades 1 to 3
Semester Fee: $85
Class Size: Min. 4, Max. 8
This is a fun class that will explore fabric and design as an art form. Beginning hand sewing will be taught as well as a variety of fabric art, e.g., fabric painting, coloring, stenciling, appliqué, tie dying, and more. These projects will be completed on a 10x10 block of fabric to be sewn into a lap size quilt. Hand sewing projects include sewing and stuffing little animals, dolls and/or bears and making clothes for them, pillows, bean bags, and more. Safety and creativity are both emphasized. Children not only learn sewing skills but also patience, manners, focus, responsibility, commitment, coordination, and how to follow rules while having fun. Your child will have the satisfaction of a job well done. The only homework assignment will be projects that they didn’t finish in class to be taken home, completed, and returned the following week. Please note: we make the quilt blocks in class; construction of the quilt is done outside of class. Parents may put the quilt together or I will sew it for an extra fee.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: A sewing box and a few basic supplies. I will provide the supplies needed to make each project, e.g., thread, pins, needles, scissors, fabric, etc. Three books are recommended but not required: My First Sewing Book, My First Embroidery Book, and My First Doll Book by Winky Cherry.
