YEARBOOK
Grades 9 to 12

The purpose of this class is to produce the Hallstrom Home School Yearbook. Class will include developing the theme and
general layout, photography, scheduling and implementing class and individual pictures, all page layouts, ad sales through
publishing the Yearbook. This may require outside time towards publication date. Priority will be given to those with past
experience and a desire to put forth their best effort in accomplishing a great yearbook. The advisors will be contacting
all who sign up to confirm.
BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE ART
Grades 5 to 7
INTERMEDIATE ART
Grades 8 to 12
Semester Fee: $80*
Class Size: Min. 10, Max. 20
Students observe demonstrations by the instructor and will use a wide variety of art materials. Materials include paints
(acrylic and water color), printing inks, pen & ink, charcoals, pastels, and clay. They will develop skills in composition,
design, drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. We will study basic art principles and elements and art terminology.
Students will exhibit an example of their art at the HHSW Christmas program and the Academic Fair. All materials for classes
will be supplied by the teacher.
*Plus $5 per semester to cover exhibit
expenses.
ADVANCED
ART
(2 hour class)
Grades 8 to 12

Class Size: Max. 5 to 20
This class is geared to those students
who may go on to take art at the Junior College or College level. We will learn to stretch and gesso our own canvases and
frame our paintings. Individual concepts for art work will be encouraged. We will work on our art portfolios. This class takes
the art students to the next level in drawing and painting.
*All materials included except for portfolio which is purchased separately.
PREREQUISITE: Previous art classes and approval of Instructor.
HUMANITIES
Grades 9 to 12

How have politics, philosophies, and inventions changed the arts through the ages? Using Dr. Francis Schaeffer’s
How Should We Then Live? series as the format, this team taught class will cover the histories of drama and the church (Mr.
Hill), music (Mrs. Shihadah), architecture (Mrs. Perrino), and art (Mrs. Schermerhorn). This NEW class will cover three time
periods including (1) the early Christians through the Middle Ages, (2) Renaissance/ Reformation to the Scientific Age, and
(3) Modern and Post-Modern times. This is an insightful class for those who wonder “why?” Parents welcome, too.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: How Should We Then Live? by Dr. Francis Schaeffer,
published in 1983, republished in paperback 2005, available used from many sources including www.half.com for $3 to $10.
BASIC DRAWING
Grades 4 to 12
Semester Fee: $64
Class Size: Min. 6, Max. 10
This class will introduce your student to the basics of drawing and will cover aspects such as negative space, line weight
variation, perspective, shading, and composition. We will also study some classic paintings and drawing for composition and
style. We will be drawing from pictures and still lifes.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: 24 x 36 newsprint pad, drawing pencil set/compressed
charcoal, and possibly an easel.
BEGINNING ART
Grades 2 to 4

Class Size: Min. 6, Max. 10
The purpose of this class is to introduce children to the wonder world of art. Basic skills and techniques will be introduced
giving children confidence in developing their God-given creativity. All materials will be provided by the teacher.
PRESCHOOL ART
Ages 4 to 6 years
Semester Fee: $45
Class Size: Max 10
Each week’s art project will revolve around a new theme and story. We will use many different colors, shapes, textures,
and media. Each project will have a theme letter and color to reinforce learning.
REQUIRED
MATERIALS: Paint smock.
